🌿 Aquaponics System Diagram: How It Works

🐟 1. Fish Tank (Aquaculture)

Fish such as tilapia, catfish, or koi are raised in a water tank. As they feed and grow, they release organic waste (mainly ammonia) into the water.

🌱 3. Hydroponic Grow Bed

The nutrient-rich water is pumped to the grow beds, where leafy greens like lettuce, basil, or kale absorb the nitrates. These plants grow faster than in soil, thanks to the optimized nutrient delivery.

🔄 2. Biofiltration

Beneficial bacteria in the biofilter convert toxic ammonia into nitrites, and then into nitrates—a form of nitrogen that plants can absorb as nutrients.

💧 4. Water Recirculation

As the plants absorb nutrients, they help filter and purify the water. The clean water is then recirculated back to the fish tank, creating a sustainable, chemical-free farming loop.
